Wildlife Food Plots
Installing food plots for wildlife is a practice that is still growing in the Midwest. While some people can grow fairly successful plots, others lack the time, knowledge, and/or access to proper equipment required to succeed in this area. We can be of assistance to those who need just a little help, or to others who prefer more of a turnkey operation.
We will meet with you and discuss options during our Habitat Evaluation. We have the means to clear trees (if necessary), test the soil, apply soil amendments, disk, and seed. We can also handle the maintenance of your plot.
Our perennial plots of clover & chicory are popular and successful, but so are our straight clover or alfalfa plots as well. We custom blend seeds for individual plots based upon soil type, elevation, sun exposure, surrounding vegetation, etc.
Annual crops are planted with our agricultural grade minimum-till seeder. This allows us to plant at the proper depth and seed spacing, minimizing wasted seed. We use the same planters that large-scale farming operations use, except we don’t pull a 20-foot seeder! We use the same brand of seeder, just a smaller size so that we can access small plots via trails. Locally available row crop seeds grow into highly attractive foods for wildlife after we plant.
We can pull soil samples while on site. These samples are then taken back to our office for analysis in order to determine what amounts of soil amendments are needed. We have the equipment to perform these tests in-house. No need to wait 2 weeks to send off samples and get results. Due to our quicker turn-around time for soil analysis, we can narrow down or adjust where or what we want to plant without having to wait weeks for results.
